United States: The figure accused of ending the life of conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, according to five officials familiar with the unfolding case.
On Thursday, authorities unveiled sharp surveillance footage capturing the alleged shooter, alongside still images that showed him entering and leaving Utah Valley University—the site of Kirk’s tragic end the previous evening.
The break in the case arrived when one of Robinson’s own relatives recognized him in those images and quietly alerted police, senior officials confirmed.
Public records note that Robinson’s last voter registration dated back to July 13, 2021, with no political affiliation listed.
Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a figure who carried influence within the Trump orbit, was struck down Wednesday during a campus event hosted by TPUSA’s local chapter in Orem, just south of Salt Lake City, according to NBC News.
Former President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death and again surfaced as the first to share word of Robinson’s custody on Friday morning.
“With absolute confidence, we’ve got him in custody,” Trump told Fox News. “Law enforcement, the governor—everyone worked together. It was an outstanding effort.”
Trump suggested that the suspect’s own father was central to the surrender.
“Sometimes it’s the smallest gesture, the way a head tilts—something that only family notices,” Trump remarked. “That recognition set off a chain—someone close told the father, who went to a US Marshal. Then the father persuaded the son, ‘It’s time.’”
Released video revealed a shadowy figure sprinting across a rooftop before dropping into grass below, then drifting past parked cars toward a bustling road. Additional stills depicted a lean young man clad in a black long-sleeve shirt emblazoned with the American flag, dark glasses, an Adidas cap, faded jeans, and worn Converse sneakers.
Investigators later recovered what they described as a high-powered bolt-action rifle from a nearby wooded patch where the gunman was believed to have escaped.
