United States: A deeply distressing occurrence unfolded as two women and a five-year-old girl lost their lives when a train thundered across a railroad bridge spanning the northern Ohio stretch of the Sandusky River, colliding with the family, officials reported on Monday.
Rescue teams, employing sonar technology, had combed the river’s flow throughout the dark hours. Come Monday morning, the search culminated in the heartbreaking discovery of the young girl’s body, located adjacent to the bridge, confirmed Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez.
Originating from Fort Wayne, Indiana, the family had ventured to the Sandusky River for a tranquil fishing retreat. As per Sanchez, they were present upon the trestle late Sunday evening when the locomotive surged across the structure. A one-year-old child was miraculously recovered from the water and is presently receiving medical attention at a hospital, according to the Associated Press.
Uncertainty still clouds the specifics—whether the roaring train directly struck all four family members or whether some leapt or were hurled into the water in a desperate bid to evade the collision remains unresolved, Sanchez added.
