United States: Kamala Harris marches towards the presidency and to the Democratic nomination after enough delegates pledged to endorse her, which enables the vice president to campaign in Wisconsin for the first time as a presidential candidate on Tuesday.
Harris has emerged as the presumed nominee after Biden decided to withdraw from his reelection bid on Sunday. This followed intensified internal strife and surveys that revealed a decline in the president’s popularity ahead of a mooted confrontation with Trump, as reported by Reuters.
Within 36 hours of Biden’s endorsement, Harris clinched the nomination on Monday night, having gathered the support of the majority of party delegates who will ultimately decide on the nomination, the campaign stated
“Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee,” Harris said in a statement late Monday night. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”
Rapid Endorsement After Biden’s Announcement
An informal poll carried out by the Associated Press revealed that Harris currently has more than 2,500 delegates, which is significantly more than the 1,976 delegates that are required to set a vote in the following weeks. Delegates could still, technically, change their minds, but nobody else received any vote in the AP survey; 54 delegates said they were ‘undecided.’
The Wisconsin trip presents the 59-year-old former California prosecutor with a second chance to regain momentum and sell the Democrats’ message that she is ready to defeat Trump. Harris is planned to speak at a political rally in Milwaukee at 1:05 p.m. CDT or 1805 GMT.
Emphasizing Her Prosecutorial Record
She gave a feeling about how she intends to go at Trump on Monday, describing her history of ‘hunting’ ‘predators’ and ‘fraudsters’ as the district attorney of San Francisco and the attorney general of California.

Swing States and Fundraising Success
These states include Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, which are often viewed as Democrats’ must-win states and where Biden was trailing Trump.
“There are independents and young people who did not like their choices, and Harris has a chance to win them,” said Paul Kendrick, executive director of the Democratic group Rust Belt Rising and a student of these swing states where ballot preferences can be fluid.
FUNDRAISING WINDFALL
This man has also been fundraising for his campaign. Her campaign said that on Monday, she had raised $81 million since Biden suspended his campaign on Sunday, coming close to the $95 million cash on hand that Biden had at the end of June.
Hollywood donors lifted their ‘Dembargo’ on political contributions as movers and shakers, including Cardi B, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Shonda Rhimes, campaigned for Harris.
At the same time, Trump and his allies attempted to pin Harris down on some of Biden’s less popular policies, such as immigration.
“Kamala Harris’ dismal record is one of complete failure and utter incompetence. Her policies are Biden’s, and vice versa,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said.
Whether she indeed can reverse the downfall of polls in these states is still a question mark.
Revitalizing the Democratic Base
Talking to at least half a dozen high-ranking Democrats in Wisconsin, they said Harris provides the party a do-over moment and galvanizes the base that was tired of both Biden and Trump.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said Harris, the first Black American and the first South Asian American to be elected as a vice president, will also bring back Black voters.
“Many of them didn’t come along because they were distracted by his age, distracted by his appearance,” Crowley said.
Speculation Over Running Mate
It also propelled the guessing game about who might accompany Harris as a running mate other than Biden, who is at the head of the ticket.
