United States: Donald Trump will host Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban Thursday at the Republican presidential candidate’s residence in Florida, three people familiar with the event said.
It was not immediately apparent what other topics would be discussed in the meeting, but at least one of the sources said that the war in Ukraine would be among the subjects being discussed, as reported by Reuters.
Orban’s Recent Diplomatic Missions
Orban, a loyal friend of Trump, has jetted to Kyiv, Moscow, and Beijing in the past two weeks on what he termed a peace mission.
Obama’s meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin specifically provoked some of Budapest’s NATO partners to say the trip provided recognition to Putin for the Ukrainian territories annexed since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Orban at the NATO Summit
Orban has been participating in a NATO summit in Washington. The Hungarian embassy in Washington D. C. did not wish to comment on the planned encounter with Trump; the information was disclosed by Bloomberg.
Over the past few months, foreign officials have frequently attempted to schedule meetings with Trump and his closest advisors in an effort to talk about Trump’s foreign policy should he triumph in the Nov. 5 election against Biden. Surveys reveal an increase in Trump’s lead over Biden.
Foreign Interest in Trump’s Foreign Policy
One adviser, Keith Kellogg, has already met with several high-ranking foreign officials on the margin of the NATO summit this week, according to the information provided by Reuters.
Orban last met with Trump at the beginning of March. Following that, a right-wing nationalist PM endorsed Trump’s bid for the presidency.
